Timothy L. Byrd, M.D., FAPA

Timothy L. Bryd, M.D., President of Ocala Psychiatric Associates, started in private practice in 1982. He received his Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from Florida State University in 1975 and graduated from medical school at the University of Florida in 1978. A Family Practice internship and Psychiatric Residency at the University of Florida/Shands Teaching Hospital was completed between 1979 and 1982.

Dr. Byrd is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry.

He entered into private practice in the Ocala area immediately following residency and throughout the last 29 years has developed and formulated the entity now known as “Ocala Psychiatric Associates”.

Dr. Byrd has over 29 years of experience in treating a wide array of psychiatric issues. His primary focus is treating adults as well as subspecializing in the treatment of adolescents, age 13 to 18. Particular areas of focus and specialty include psychopharmacologic management and the treatment of mood anxiety, bipolar spectrum and psychotic disorders.

Dr. Byrd was the Medical Director of Charter Springs Hospital, a local private psychiatric facility from 1986 to 1999. He also worked as the Clinical Director of the Adolescent Unit from 1987 to 1995.

Currently Dr. Byrd maintains an outpatient practice exclusively.

Further areas of interests and specialty include significant focus on addiction work with alcohol and substance abuse disorders, recently becoming certified to prescribe Suboxone for an Opiate Dependence.
 
Because of Dr. Byrd's strong commitment to a comprehensive mental health treatment approach, Ocala Psychiatric Associates has gradually developed and broadened to include his current associates consisting of four psychotherapists, Linda D. Heise, LMHC, Allison Arnold‐Wigginton, LMHC, Scotty D. Lusk, LMHC and Bruce Hartley, Ph.D.

Dr. Byrd's approach typically includes a bilateral approach in which psychiatric/ psychopharmacologic interventions provided by him are hopefully joined in conjunction with psychotherapy by one of his well qualified associates.
